With the continuous updating and rapid development of packaging materials for sterilized items, medical non woven fabrics have gradually entered the disinfection supply centers of various hospitals at all levels as the final packaging material for sterilized items. In order to better control the quality of medical non woven fabrics, it is crucial to learn the selection standards and precautions for non woven fabrics.
Selection criteria for medical sterilized non woven fabrics:
1. Non woven fabrics are divided into S layer and M layer, and the antibacterial performance mainly relies on the M layer. The S layer ensures the mechanical strength of the non woven fabric. For non woven fabrics of the same weight, the more M-layers there are, the more guaranteed the resistance to bacteria, and the more S-layers there are, the greater the mechanical strength.Generally, non woven fabrics from manufacturers increase the thickness of the S layer (usually 30g) and reduce the weight of the M layer (usually 20g) to ensure strength and a thicker touch. When using, products that can ensure antibacterial effects should be selected first.
2. Conduct sterilization tests. After sterilization, non woven fabrics from general manufacturers tend to have a harder hand feel because high temperatures cause the internal fibers of the non woven fabric to melt. After melting, the number of fiber layers decreases, shortening the path for bacteria to enter and reducing the antibacterial performance.
3. Look at the appearance, weigh the weight, and test the feel. The appearance of high-quality non woven fabric is free of cloud like spots, dead threads, etc. The surface is flat and smooth, with a soft feel, and a weighing error of ≤ 3g.
4.Quality standard requirements for medical non woven fabrics : Medical non woven fabrics used for sterilization of final packaging materials of medical devices should comply with both GB/T 19633 and YY/T 0698.2 specifications.
5.Special non woven fabrics should be used for hydrogen peroxide low-temperature plasma, and medical non woven fabrics containing plant fibers cannot be used, as plant fibers can absorb hydrogen peroxide.
Note:
1. The validity period of medical non-woven fabric itself is generally 2-3 years, and the validity period of products from different manufacturers may vary slightly. Please refer to the instructions for use. The shelf life of sterile items packaged with medical non woven fabric should be 180 days and not affected by sterilization methods.
2. When packaging surgical instruments with medical non woven fabrics, a closed packaging method should be used. Two layers of non woven fabrics should be packaged in two batches, and repeated folding can form a longer bending path to prevent microorganisms from easily entering the sterilization package. It is not possible to use two layers of non-woven fabrics for one packaging.
3. Medical non woven fabrics undergo high-temperature sterilization, and their internal results may change, affecting the penetration and antibacterial properties of the sterilization medium. Therefore, medical non woven fabrics cannot be reused for sterilization.
4. Due to the hydrophobic properties of non woven fabrics, excessive and heavy metal instruments are sterilized at high temperatures, and condensation water is formed during the cooling process, which can easily produce wet bags. Therefore, placing absorbent materials inside the large instrument package, appropriately reducing the loading capacity of the sterilizer, leaving gaps between sterilization packages, and appropriately extending the drying time should be done to avoid the generation of wet packages as much as possible.
5. Although medical non woven fabric does not belong to medical devices, it is related to the sterilization quality of medical devices. As a packaging material, the quality of medical non woven fabric itself and the packaging method are crucial to ensure the level of sterility.
6. Refer to the qualified inspection reports and product batch testing reports provided by the manufacturer, and inspect the physical and chemical properties of medical non woven fabrics to ensure the quality of the products used is qualified.
